What to Wear and How to Prepare for Your Headshot
Solid, neutral colors usually photograph best. Bring 2–3 outfit options if you’re unsure.
- Follow your company’s dress code if applicable.
- Avoid neon, fluorescent colors, large logos, or busy patterns. Subtle patterns like pinstripes are fine.
- Sleeveless tops are best under a jacket.
- Choose fitted clothing over loose or baggy pieces for a more polished look.
- Make sure all items are clean, pressed, and photo-ready.
- Layering can create multiple looks from one outfit, and we can take photos with/without a tie, jacket, or glasses.
Yes, my Malvern studio has a private changing area, a well-lit mirror, and small amenities such as hairspray, a lint roller, and cleaning wipes for glasses. Feel free to arrive in street clothes and change here.
Yes, outfit changes are welcome. I recommend 2–3 options for variety, unless your company requires a specific uniform.
For classic head-and-shoulders headshots, your bottoms won’t show, so no need to worry about dress pants. But if you’d like ¾ crops (from the hips up), it’s best to wear something professional on the bottom so jeans don’t sneak into the frame... unless you want jeans in the photo, in which case, go for it! Dress shoes are only needed if you’re planning full-length portraits.
I don’t provide a stylist, so I recommend using your favorite hair or makeup professional if you’d like. During the session, I’ll help adjust hair or clothing to keep you looking your best.

In the studio, I frequently use classic black, white, and gray backdrops, along with options in brown, blue, pink, ivory, and textured “old masters” styles. What to Expect During Your Headshot Session
Most headshot sessions last about 15–20 minutes, depending on outfit changes and how many looks you’d like to capture. Some clients are done in as little as 5 minutes if their company provides specific requirements, while others prefer up to 45 minutes to explore different styles. I tailor each session to your needs so you leave with exactly the images you want.
Absolutely! I’ll guide you through natural posing and work to bring out genuine expressions so you feel relaxed and confident. My goal is to capture authentic images that represent you at your best. Most clients leave saying, “That was so much easier than I expected!”
Yes. I’ll show you previews on the back of the camera so you can see how things are shaping up. We can make adjustments as we go, and you’re welcome to share any insecurities so I can pose and light you in the most flattering way. I aim to deliver a headshot you’ll be proud to share.
Headshot Delivery, Proofs & Retouching
You’ll receive a private online gallery within two business days.
Your proof gallery will include the best images from each pose. If you only need one specific look, expect around 5–10 proofs. If you bring multiple outfits for different styles, you may see 50–60 proofs. I remove blinks and unflattering shots so your gallery highlights only the strongest images.
Every headshot includes natural retouching: whitening teeth, smoothing skin, removing blemishes, softening lines and wrinkles, and taming flyaway hairs. My goal is to enhance your portrait so you look like the best version of yourself, never overly “airbrushed.”
